Who Benefits from

The Reading Hospital Road Run?

Your Support Impacts Your Community! Become part of a giving tradition that is over 125 years old. Through community fundraising events such as the Reading Hospital Road Run, The Friends of Reading Hospital support projects such as the Patient Assistance Fund McGlinn Cancer Institute and the Center for Public Health. Proceeds from The Friends of Reading Hospital’s events and fundraisers also benefit programs in the Reading Health System and Greater Berks County Community, including:

  • HeartSAFE Berks County: To date, more than 500 AED’s have been placed throughout Berks County.

  • Telemedicine for Stroke Patients: This pilot program was developed to enhance communication between EMS professionals and Reading Hospital Emergency Department staff for rapid assessment of patients with symptoms of a stroke.

  • Cold Cap Therapy: This therapy process has been implemented to reduce hair loss for patients undergoing chemotherapy at McGlinn Cancer Institute.

  • Food Service Van for Reading Recreation Commission: In 2016, over 35,000 meals have been delivered to children in the city of Reading.

  • Service Van and Supplies for Street Medicine: The Street Medicine Program provides primary medical care to the unsheltered homeless. Physicians and nurses volunteer their time each week to evaluate and treat patients in shelters, soup kitchens and homeless camps throughout the county. Funding from The Friends will greatly expand the capabilities of this program by facilitating the purchase of point-of-care testing equipment and a van that will serve as a mobile clinic.
